Energy Reduction Guide

Energy Saving Tips for Students:

1. Unplug Electronics When Not in Use
- Chargers, laptops, and gaming consoles still use power even when they’re off. Unplug them or use a power strip to turn everything off at once.

2. Use Natural Light
- Open blinds during the day to use sunlight instead of electric lights. It saves energy and boosts your mood!

3. Choose LED Bulbs
- If you’re allowed to replace bulbs in your dorm, switch to LED bulbs. They use 75% less energy and last longer.

4. Limit Space Heater Use
- Instead of cranking up space heaters, use a cozy blanket or wear warm layers. Heaters are energy-intensive and can quickly spike electricity usage.

5. Take Shorter Showers
- Reducing shower time by just a few minutes can save gallons of hot water, which means less energy is needed to heat it.

6. Set Your Laptop to Energy-Saving Mode
- Adjust your settings to dim the screen and turn off when inactive. This will reduce power consumption and extend battery life.

7. Wash Clothes with Cold Water
- Heating water takes up a lot of energy. Washing with cold water cleans clothes just as well and reduces energy use.

8. Close Doors and Windows
- Keep doors and windows closed when heating or cooling is on. This helps maintain the room temperature without wasting energy.

9. Use a Fan Instead of Air Conditioning
- A small fan can cool down your room without the energy costs of an AC. Remember to turn it off when you leave!

10. Get Involved!
- Join your dorm’s sustainability group or start an energy-saving competition to get everyone involved in making a difference!
